What's the longest you've ever waited in line?
It must've been about 11 hours.
My friends and I had gone to see Siouxsee & the Banshees at a concert on Boston Common. The next morning U2 tickets were going on sale at the Orpheum Theater at 10:00am. It was the Joshua Tree tour and the concert was at the old Foxboro/Sullivan stadium.
This was before ticket brokers and before I had a credit card, so we decided to wait overnight for the chance to purchase tickets. In Boston. On the sidewalk. What the hell was I thinking?
Mine is 'Where the Streets Have No Name.' Back when Sassy was counting down her top 10 favorite U2 songs it got me thinking of what my list would be like. I've come to the conclusion that no other song even by another band hits me like 'Streets' does.
'Where the Streets Have No Name'
To this day the opening notes of Streets gives me goosebumps. It gives me chills and it warms my heart at the same time. THEN you hear it live. Oh my. I believe everytime I saw U2 on the Joshua Tree tour they opened with Streets. AMAZING!
Not that I am playing favorites because every time I've seen U2 has been a wonderful experience, but my favorite 'Streets' version was during the Elevation Tour. Specifically at Slane Castle! Just ask my brother......i cried like a little girl. It just felt so emotional as Bono began the song in front of a home crowd.
Listening to Streets is sometimes like a time machine. It takes me back to 1987. I was so young and did some foolish things. I have a newspaper article about fans at the Orpheum saved from 8/17/87. I slept overnight with one of my friends (and 100 other people) in front of the Orpheum Theater in Boston to get tickets for U2's 9/18/87 show. This was before I knew what a ticket broker was! If I could go back in time would I do it again?! YES!!! I had my best friend Leslie with me and we met some fun boys who shared their beer with us AND taught us to throw the cans at the rats that came out of the sewers when it got quiet! LOL! Plus we did end up with tickets! : )
Speaking of a time machine...I looked at some of my ticket stubs from 1987. The prices I paid to see the best band in the world?! $16.50 and $19.00. WOW!!
On this day in 1888, Vincent van Gough cut off his left ear. In keeping with that spirit, what's the craziest thing you've ever done?
This one time, my friend Leslie and I slept out over night in Boston. In front of the Orpheum Theater. It was of course for a VERY important reason. U2 tickets at Sullivan Stadium.
This was before we had credit cards and knew what ticket brokers were. It was the 1980s and we were young, ready for adventure and a little foolish!
I can't believe we did that...but we did meet some fun people who taught us that if you threw beer cans at the rats they would go back into the sewers! LOL!!
Ok and looking at it...it's not REALLY crazy....but it is crazy for me! : )
